Los Angeles World Airports’ Palmdale and Ontario airports are getting new commercial air services, part of a long-awaited plan to ease overcrowding at Los Angeles International Airport.

United Airlines will offer two daily flights from LA/Palmdale Regional Airport to San Francisco International Airport on 50-seat regional jets starting in June, the first time in nine years that the Antelope Valley facility has had scheduled commercial service.

In addition, ExpressJet Holdings Inc. announced Monday that it will begin new service under its own name in April at LA/Ontario International Airport. It’s considered the largest expansion in the Ontario airport’s history, with nonstop service to 14 cities not currently served by carriers there.

Houston-based ExpressJet has been a major regional service provider for Continental Airlines Inc. under the Continental Express name, but Houston-based Continental announced last month that it was scaling back its purchases of capacity. ExpressJet plans to use 44 planes no longer committed to Continental to offer service in 24 cities in the Southeast, Midwest and West.
