Nancy Carr was preparing for a business career when she was a student at USC. When she took some public relations classes, she found the path she wanted to take.

“I loved it,” she said. “Especially the research, strategy and implementation of campaigns and I never looked back.”

She was recently promoted to senior vice president of corporate communications at Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel, which are owned and operated by Crown Media Holdings Inc. in Studio City.

In her new position, she is more involved in the business-to-business aspect of PR for Hallmark.

“If we do a screening, I do the outreach to the press,” she said. She is also in charge of getting press releases out to announce major events.

In terms of PR assignments, Carr acknowledges she has an advantage.

“Hallmark is a legacy brand,” she said. “Our brand is a worldwide-known brand.”

Carr has been at Hallmark since 2005. Before that, she was vice president of communications for CBS Television in Los Angeles.

Her first substantial job came while she was still in college. She was working for Berkhemer Kline-Golin/Harris, a public relations agency based in Los Angeles. One assignment she had there was working on a campaign for the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena.

“I had an opportunity to interview for a position at CBS,” she said. “I was hired there and it was a lot of fun, and there turned out to be a lot of opportunity for career growth for me personally in the television industry.”

Carr lives in Westwood with her husband, radio journalist Ronnie Bradford, She is passionate about animals and she takes care of cats. Carr also enjoys reading, and going to plays and museums. She also follows USC Trojans football.
