DirecTV Group Inc. paid its Chief Executive Chase Carey $6.5 million in 2006, a regulatory filing revealed Friday.

Carey was paid a salary of $2.1 million and received a bonus of $4 million, according to the El Segundo-based satellite TV provider.

Carey also received $204,303 for company contributions to an executive savings plan, $54,479 for personal use of company aircraft and $3,562 for reimbursement for taxes on the aircraft usage.

DirecTV did well in 2006, as its net income ballooned more than 300 percent to $1.42 billion ($1.12 per share) on revenues of $15 billion.

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. agreed earlier this year to swap its 38 percent stake in DirecTV to John Malone’s Liberty Media Corp. in exchange for $550 million in cash and Liberty’s $11 billion stake in News Corp.

Shares in DirecTV were up 3 cents to $23.92 in afternoon trading Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
