California Pizza Kitchen Inc. opened its first location in Japan, the company said Tuesday.

The new restaurant, opened in the largest shopping mall complex in the Tokyo region, will be the first opened by Tokyo-based WDI Corporation, which signed a deal with the Calabasas-based restaurant owner and operator earlier this year and plans to open at least 15 stores in the country.

The restaurant is 3,500 square-feet and is located in a commercial complex which consists of retail shops, business offices and residential buildings. California Pizza Kitchen already has more than a dozen restaurants in six Asian countries, including China and the Philippines. The company is next planning expansions into Mexico, Canada and Europe.

Shares of California Pizza Kitchen closed down 13 cents to $29.79.
