Hilton Profit, Revenue Surge

Thanks to a doubling of revenue and strong room occupancy rates, Hilton Hotel Corp. posted solid third quarter numbers.

Hilton reported third-quarter net income of $117 million (29 cents per share), a 24 percent increase from $89 million (22 cents) for the same period a year earlier.

Revenue for the Beverly Hills-based company doubled to $2.2 billion, mainly due to the acquisition earlier this year of Hilton Group Plc, which operated Hilton hotels outside the United States.

Hilton said that revenue per available room, a measure of rates and occupancy, rose 9.8 percent as a limited supply of hotels and higher demand from travelers drove up prices in the biggest U.S. markets.

Shares in Hilton closed down 4 cents to $28.92.
