Health Net Expands Coverage

Health Net Inc. said Friday that it plans next year to expand its Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Woodland Hills-based health insurer now offers the program in California and nine other states.


In addition, the Health Net said intends to enter the private fee-for-service Medicare Advantage market by offering such plans in California and six other states. Health Net also will expand its traditional Medicare Advantage plan, now available in Los Angeles County and 16 other California counties, into three additional California counties and one additional Arizona county in 2007.


Health Net recently opened Medicare retail outlets in East Los Angeles and Mesa, Ariz. and expects to open several more such outlets before the end of next year.


“We pride ourselves on anticipating the needs of our Medicare customers and providing them with a diversified portfolio of health care solutions that are affordable, accessible and designed to improve their health and well being,” Sam Srivastava, the company’s chief Medicare officer, said in a statement.


New special needs plans for beneficiaries with chronic diseases such as congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; and

Private fee-for-service for the first time in seven states, including California.
