Albertsons Stores Sold Again

Albertsons grocery stores in Northern California were sold Monday for the second time in less than a year, demonstrating the turmoil that continues to grip the supermarket industry, Sacramento Bee reports.

The sale of 130 stores in Northern California and Nevada to Modesto-based Save Mart came just five months after the stores were purchased by investment firm Cerberus Capital Management.

New York-based Cerberus closed 37 stores, including four in greater Sacramento, in its first week of ownership.

Privately held Save Mart pledged to keep all the Albertsons stores open, including 22 in the Sacramento area, but said it hasn’t decided yet whether to retain the Albertsons name once the deal is completed in February.
