Disney, Comcast Reach Programming Deal

Walt Disney Co. and Comcast Corp are reportedly close to an agreement that would place Disney programming on Comcast’s video-on-demand cable service.


As part of the pact, Comcast will acquire Disney’s 39.5 percent stake in E! Entertainment Television for $1.23 billion giving Comcast complete ownership of the entertainment network.


The agreement calls for Comcast to spend $1 billion annually for prime time ABC programs such as “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost” for its on demand cable service. Other content would be provided by Disney’s ESPN, Disney Channel and Toon Disney


Shares in Burbank-based Disney closed up 11 cents to $33.23 Tuesday while shares in the Philadelphia cable company were down 11 cents to $40.68.
