Online job demand in Los Angeles rose to its highest level in seven months in October, driven by a plethora of construction and building maintenance jobs, according to Monster Worldwide’s monthly index.

Online demand for jobs in Los Angeles County reached 108 on the Monster index, up from 107 in September and from 101 in October 2005. The mark tied the previous high from March.

A reading of 100 is considered as the baseline for the index, which measures Monster’s employer job offerings as well as listings from dozens of other online job services.

Thirteen of the 22 job categories tracked by Monster saw their index levels rise from September levels, while four posted declines and five remained the same.

The biggest gainers were building/grounds, cleaning/maintenance and construction/extraction; the biggest drops were seen in community/social services and protective services.
