Karatz Resigns from Edison Board

Former KB Home Chairman and Chief Executive Bruce Karatz quit his position as a director on the board of Edison International, the Rosemead utility company said Monday.

The departure of Karatz from the board follows his sudden resignation as head of the Los Angeles home builder earlier this month. Karatz resigned from KB after an internal probe found he had personally backdated stock option grants between 1998 to 2005 inflating his stock-based compensation. Karatz, one of the highest paid chief executives in the country last year, will be forced to give back about $13 million to the home builder.

Edison said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that Karatz’s resignation from its board “did not involve any disagreement on any matter relating to Edison International’s operations, policies or practices.”

Shares in Edison were down 37 cents Monday to $46.33.
