Executive:

Scott Oshry, vice president of design and co-founder

Early Days/Financing:

Zorbit’s management team is the same team that was at an earlier company, Roundhouse Inc., which owned two brands: CD Projects and Glacier Gear. We sold the company in 2000. A couple of years later a vice president from Roundhouse was asked by a buyer at Victoria Secret to manufacture a product. He called the rest of the old team and said he had an interesting industry for us. We started off just manufacturing (packaging). We financed Zorbit with our own capital, about $100,000.

Big Break:

Our first large project that allowed us to do everything was the Victoria Secret Shimmer Brush. Most of our competitors only do one thing only set boxes, or folding cartons. We’re the only one in the industry that does all components: the brush, a box for it (etc.) We were able prove to a large company we could do it all.

Biggest Challenge

: When the numbers get that large, it gets harder to manage. But we’ve hired more employees and we opened up an office in China that helped a lot.

Secret of Success:

It’s a combination of manufacturing overseas and being the only company offering everything. Now we use design to help secure manufacturing. We’ll say, “Here’s $100,000 worth of design work. You guarantee us the manufacturing and we’ll rebate your design fee.”

What’s Next:

We hope to continue to solidify our position in the industry as the only and best full turnkey solution .
