Napster Inc. will offer some music free as part of an effort to drive more customers and advertisers to its Napster.com Web site, the company announced Monday.

Users will be able to listen to more than 2 million songs five times each at no cost. The Los Angeles-based company is anticipating the free offering will lure more customers to its Web site and give the company a better chance of signing them up for its subscription service.

Napster charges $9.95 and $14.95 a month for membership to its site, which gives access to music downloads and radio stations.

Napster Chief Executive Chris Gorog is introducing Napster.com on Monday during a keynote speech at the annual MUSEXPO event in Los Angeles.

The Company also announced two other features at Napster.com, NapsterLinks enable users to add links to free Napster music to e-mails, instant messages, blogs and websites. An upcoming Narchive is intended as a public music archive where users are invited to contribute to a “People’s History of Music.”
