Stocks Little Changed After Rally

Stocks ended little changed on Monday as investors showed no desire to extend last week’s strong gains ahead of a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, just a week before the Fed’s next meeting on interest rates.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 5.12 points, or 0.1 percent, to 11,274.53. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index slipped 2.17 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,305.08. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 7.63 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,314.11.

Local movers were led by UTI Worldwide Inc, which gained 1.6 percent to $100.89, Reinhold Industries Inc., which rose 14.1 percent to $11, and East West Bancorp Inc., which climbed 3.3 percent to $39.51. On the down side, Occidental Petroleum Corp. fell 2.8 percent to $92.42, Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. lost 2.2 percent to $94.93 and Ryland Group Inc. slipped 2.5 percent to $68.76.
