Northrop Lands IT Contract

Northrop Grumman Corp. has been selected by the Department of Homeland Security as a prime contractor that will help improve the information technology systems and services for the DHS. Northrop is one of 24 other companies awarded this type of contract for the Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading Edge Solutions (EAGLE) program.

According to Larry Orluskie, a spokesman for the DHS, all 25 of the prime contacts are worth around $45 billion over seven years.

“This is part of an effort by DHS to consolidate its information infrastructure,” Orluskie said. “Right now, it’s spread out among many various organizations.”

Currently, the Los Angeles-based company is the second-largest provider of IT services to the government, trailing only Lockheed Martin Co. According to Northrop, the contract is for work in four functional categories: infrastructure engineering design, development, implementation and integration; operations and maintenance; software development; and management support services. Northrop pulls about one-third of its annual revenue, which was about $30 billion last year, from government IT services.

“We will partner with the DHS by using EAGLE to achieve enterprise efficiency in full life-cycle support of IT applications, systems and services,” said Sid Fuchs, president of Northrop’s newly formed IT’s Civilian Agencies group. “This win marks a significant milestone in our efforts as a leading IT provider to the DHS.”

The work on the contracts will be performed mainly in the Washington, D.C. area.
