Dow, Nasdaq Stumble As Bond Yields Climb

Higher oil prices and a spike in bond yields pushed stocks lower Tuesday as investor enthusiasm waned over upbeat earnings and tame wholesale inflation data.


In early afternoon trading, the Dow Jones industrial average sank 48.27, or 0.45 percent, to 10,699.09, after opening the session higher. Broader stock indicators also retreated. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was down 6.57, or 0.53 percent, at 1,227.92, and the Nasdaq composite index slid 18.24, or 0.9 percent, to 2,019.48.
