L.A. Gas Prices Nearly Constant

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles area fell slightly after two consecutive weeks of increases, slipping fourth-tenths of a cent to $2.435 for the week ended Jan. 23. The week before, prices jumped 11.8 cents to $2.439.


L.A. prices are 43.8 cents higher than they were a year ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. New York City and Miami had higher per-gallon costs, coming in at $2.450 and $2.461, respectively.


Statewide, prices rose seven-tenths of a cent to $2.424 from $2.417 one week earlier, leaving them 46.5 cents higher than year-ago rates. New York out-priced California for the sixth week in a row, adding 2.7 cents to $2.593, to become the most expensive state out of those surveyed.


Minnesota had the lowest-priced gas of the states surveyed, at $2.199 per gallon, and the city with the cheapest gas was Denver, which lost 1.5 cents to $2.220 per gallon.
