Vulcan Materials Co. is a company with a conscience.

Vulcan, which maintains local operations in Irwindale and Azusa, has joined the California Climate Action Registry, a coalition of businesses and environmental leaders committed to addressing climate change.

As a member of the voluntary program, Vulcan Materials’ Western Division will annually track, report and certify all greenhouse emissions produced by its California operations.

Vulcan, which operates in 21 states and in Mexico, produces the aggregate base material that’s used to build highways, bridges, schools, churches and other structures.

The California Climate Action Registry was established by California statute in 2000 as a nonprofit, voluntary registry for greenhouse gas emissions.
