Engineers, Architects Reach Tentative Pact

A tentative settlement was reached Wednesday in the long-running and contentious labor dispute between the Engineers and Architects Association and the city of Los Angeles.

The union and city officials announced an agreement that calls for a 9 percent raise over three years for the 7,400 employees represented by the union. That closely mirrors the 3.25 percent increase annually for five years that union workers in the Department of Water & Power received last year.

The Engineers and Architects Association has been working for two years without a contract and union leaders had been seeking contract terms similar to the DWP employee raise. In August, the city unilaterally imposed contract terms; union leaders cited that move as a reason for deciding to stage spot strikes at key city facilities during the summer and fall.

The settlement must still be ratified by the union rank-and-file. Members have until Jan. 10 to vote on the deal. City and union officials said that further details of the deal will be disclosed after that vote.
