Officials Say E. Coli Outbreak Over

Recent E. coli outbreaks have put produce-related illnesses in the media spotlight, and companies that help test and sanitize food are getting investors’ attention, BusinessWeek.com reports.


The focus intensified this month when at least 71 customers at Taco Bell restaurants in five states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, were sickened.


On Thursday, Taco Bell Corp. said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared an end to the E. coli outbreak linked to lettuce served at its Taco Bell restaurants, and indicated that the lettuce was probably contaminated before reaching the restaurants. The FDA and CDC are still trying to track down the source of the contamination.
