Northrop to Bid on New Navy Ship

Northrop Grumman Corp. said Tuesday that it has teamed with Aluminum Chambered Boats Inc. to bid for an anticipated U.S. Navy contract to construct a boat to be used for fighting in rivers and coastal areas.


According to the release, privately held Bellingham, Wash.-based Aluminum Chambered Boats will design the craft, while Los Angeles-based Northrop will outfit it with weapons and sensors.


The potential value of the contract was not released. Northrop is currently the largest shipbuilder in the United States and one of the largest in the world.


Shares in Northrop were down 43 cents to $67.12 in early trading Tuesday.
