Northrop Grumman Corp. won four contracts, one with the U.S. Army, NATO and the two with the U.S. Air Force, worth nearly $500 million combined.

The first contract, worth $140 million, is for work on the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System’s support sustainment program. It is an extension for a seventh year of an existing six-year contract that was awarded in 2000 and has a total value of $810 million, the company said.

The second Air Force contract, worth $114 million, covers an extended test support program for the JSTARS and is a continuation of a current $64.8 million program.

In another Air Force contract, Northrop was awarded a $104.6 million to outfit 17 NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft with an infrared countermeasures system. Northrop said it will begin deliveries of the system in 2007 with final deliveries expected in 2009.

The Los Angeles-based defense and government contractor was also awarded a contract through the Army to provide 900 hand-held laser target locators, used to identify enemy positions and locations. The contract is valued at about $62 million.

Shares in Northrop were up 86 cents to $67.73 in early trading Monday.
