Chicago Tops L.A. in Average Gas Price

Los Angeles has been passed by the city of Chicago for the most expensive gas in the nation, a dubious honor the L.A.-area has held firmly for several months.


The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles Area was $3.232 for the week ended August 7, down three-tenths of a cent from the previous week, according to the Energy Information Administration and. The national average is $3.038, up 3 cents. Chicago edged the L.A with an average price of $3.237 per gallon. This is the third straight week prices


L.A. prices are 61 cents higher than they were a year ago and statewide the average price was $ 3.19, down six-tenths of a cent from the previous week and up 59 cents from a year ago.


Nationwide, San Francisco had the third highest price at $3.13 a gallon. California was the most expensive state at $3.192 and Texas, with an average of $2.925, was the least expensive.
