WPT Enterprises Inc. has licensed the World Poker Tour brand to 3G-Scene Limited, and also has purchased a stake in the U.K. mobile gambling service provider, the Los Angeles company announced Tuesday.

London-based 3G-Scene will design, manage and sell WPT’s mobile gambling offerings globally in countries where mobile gaming is permitted, according to WPT. The parties released the first version of their jointly-developed mobile Texas Hold’em multi-player poker game this week, which will be available on select mobile carriers in the U.K. and will allow players to wager actual money via the mobile platform. The practice is currently illegal in the U.S.

WPT also said it purchased a 10 percent stake in 3G. The partnership is part of a plan to extend WPT’s Internet-based businesses, which includes the company’s general Web site, worldpokertour.com, its real money international gaming Web site, wptonline.com, and its subscription-based poker games on mobile carriers around the globe. Financial terms were not disclosed.
