L.A. Gas Rises for Fifth Week

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles area jumped for the fifth consecutive week, rising 6 cents to $2.776 for the week ended April 3. The week before, prices edged up 5.4 cents to $2.716.


L.A. prices are 30.1 cents higher than they were a year ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. Los Angeles had the highest price per gallon of the cities surveyed for the ninth week.


Statewide, prices rose 7.4 cents to $2.743 from $2.669 one week earlier, leaving them 27.9 cents higher than year-ago rates. California was the most expensive state out of those surveyed for the eighth week.


Massachusetts and Colorado tied, attaining the lowest-priced gas of the states surveyed, at $2.517 per gallon, and the city with the cheapest gas was Denver, even though it added 3.3 cents to $2.495 per gallon.
