Business Journal Columns Honored

The Los Angeles Business Journal has been recognized by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for last year’s “Comment” columns by former editor Mark Lacter.

The Business Journal was the only publication in Los Angeles to receive a SABEW award this year.

Lacter’s columns treated such L.A. subjects as the effect of homelessness on downtown’s renewal, the region’s new economic resilience and the lack of oversight by the board of the Getty Trust in relation to former president Barry Munitz’s spending.

The judges said Lacter “explains what’s happening in L.A. and puts it into international context in a clear, approachable way.”

The SABEW Best in Business contest was started in 1995 to set standards and recognize outstanding business journalism. Awards will be presented April 30 in Minneapolis as part of the organization’s annual convention.
