Inflation Worries Drop Stocks

Solid employment data renewed Wall Street’s inflation worries and sent stocks skidding Friday, with a bond sell-off overshadowing a fresh drop in oil prices. The major indexes ended the week little changed.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 96.46, or 0.9 percent, to 11,120.04. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index slipped 13.54, or 1 percent, to 1,295.50. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 22.15, or 0.9 percent, to 2,339.02.

Local movers were led by International Aluminum Corp., which gained 2.4 percent to $43.50, UTI Worldwide Inc., which rose 3.1 percent to $32.81, and Molina Healthcare Inc., which climbed 1.8 percent to $33.40. On the down side, Ameron International Corp. fell 6.5 percent to $70.51, Occidental Petroleum Corp. lost 1.9 percent to $95.13 and Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. slipped 1.9 percent to $92.47.
