THQ Inc. signaled its commitment to the mobile-phone video game market on Tuesday when its wireless unit unveiled a multi-player game based on the “Star Wars” movie franchise.

“Star Wars Battlefront Mobile” is a multi-player game based on the best-selling LucasArt Entertainment Co. LLC video game “Star Wars Battlefront.” The mobile version due to launch Nov. 1, was announced by THQ at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association’s Wireless IT & Entertainment tradeshow in San Francisco.

The mobile game is being offered in an exclusive agreement with Cingular Wireless LLC. Its release is scheduled to coordinate with the DVD release of the film “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith” and with the release of the “Star Wars Battlefront II” game for PlayStation 2, Xbox and the PlayStation Portable.

Through its THW Wireless unit, Calabasas-based THQ is targeting the market for multi-player games that are played on cell phones. The Star Wars game is much more complex than most games that are available on cell phone. The games are being developed by Singapore-based Mikoishi Pte Ltd.

“We are creating one of the most ambitious multiplayer mobile games to date,” said THQ Wireless President Tim Walsh in a release.
