KTLA Executive Is a Man of Many Meetings

0

I’m a very active person. I get up around 6 a.m. and go get the newspaper and make a cup of mint or ginger decaf tea. I don’t drink coffee. A couple of days a week I go to the gym. I read the paper while I’m working out.

If I’m not at the gym, I spend a little more time at home with my family or reading. It takes about half hour to shower and dress and do the morning routine.

When I get to work, the first thing I do is look at the ratings from the previous night and see how much billings we put on the books the day before. Sometimes I call ahead to get that information.

Then I have meetings. I have a lot of meetings. I’m into having as much personal contact as possible. I’m not a big e-mail or computer person.

It’s not uncommon for me to have a breakfast meeting. I live in West L.A. and work in Hollywood so I try to go close to home or close to work. Usually it will be in the Beverly Hills area at the Beverly Hills Hotel Coffee Shop or the Renaissance Hotel.

If I’m not traveling, I’m out of the office. I talk to a variety of people about a variety of things: news, sales, marketing, promotion. I have outside meetings with city groups and political organizations.

Recently I had a day that started with a meeting with a young man who works in multi-media. Then I met the assistant director of the news for KTLA and together we went in for a meeting with an agent and potential talent.

I had a meeting with a vendor to talk about traffic and weather, had lunch with an advertiser, and then did a conference call with news talent concerning contract negotiation.

I met with the finance department about new shows we are considering. I was supposed to have a couple of other meetings that didn’t work out. That was one day.

I rarely take lunch by myself. I use that time to take care of something. I usually take a meeting. If one person cancels a meeting, I probably have someone else that needs to meet with me.

When I get home from work, I like to spend some time unwinding: at least a half an hour.

If I haven’t eaten, I have dinner with my family. I’m married and have three kids, two that live with me, two boys 8 and 5 & #733;.

The way my evening shapes up depends on the time of year. I coach my sons in soccer and basketball. Most activities are on the weekend but there is often at least one during the week.

After that, depending on what the kids are doing, I’m watching TV. I watch a lot of sports on ESPN. I get home for prime time and news. I watch KTLA. Along with that I watch HBO specials. I’m more of an event type person than a regularly scheduled program guy.

I usually go to bed around 11, rarely before. Most of my homework is done on the weekends. That’s when I catch up on my reading and organizing for the week.
