Passenger traffic at Los Angeles International Airport rose 5 percent in September from year-ago levels, airport officials reported Friday, led by an increase in international passengers.

Airport officials reported 4.9 million passengers passed through terminal gates in September. The increase was led by an 8 percent jump in international passenger traffic, a sign that more foreign tourist dollars are coming into the region.

For the first nine months of 2005, 46.7 million passengers went through LAX, up 1.9 percent from the same period last year and putting the airport on track to reach 62 million passengers by year’s end.

Meanwhile, passenger traffic at Ontario Airport in September was 589,242, a 7.9 percent increase over Sept. 2004 levels. Year-to-date, Ontario traffic is up 3.6 percent to 5.4 million passengers.
