It’s tough keeping up with former L.A. D.A. Gil Garcetti, who just published his third book of photography, “Dance in Cuba,” and has an exhibition at Hollywood’s Municipal Art Gallery, which runs through Dec. 31.

Garcetti seems thrilled with his second career as a photographer. He’s also busy working as a consulting producer on the TV drama “The Closer.”

“When I left the D.A.’s office at the age of 59, I figured I had 30 good years left,” he said. “I knew there was more to life.”

“Closer” creator James Duff had followed Garcetti’s career in the D.A.’s office and asked him to help create and write a real-life drama. Now Garcetti is working on a book about the series that will focus on actress Kyra Sedgwick and the folks who work behind the scenes.

Los Angeles luminaries came out in full force last week to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of “AirTalk” with Larry Mantle, the longest-running radio talk show in Los Angeles. On hand for the KPCC-FM (89.3) event at the Beverly Hills Hotel were co-chairs Leah Berg-man, a former district attorney, and Gregory Bergman of the law firm Bergman and Dacey Inc. Also on hand were TCW Inc.’s Marc Stern, Jefferies Group Inc.’s Frank Baxter and Sheppard Mullin’s Dick Troop.

USC’s Marshall School of Business is launching a Sports Business Institute headed by David Carter, the widely quoted consultant on all things sports. The advisory board includes Ed Roski, chairman and chief executive of Majestic Realty; Kathy Schloessman, president of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission; and Jeff Shell, president of programming at Comcast Corp.

Gregory Range, managing director and head of the Los Angeles office of Duff & Phelps LLC, the Chicago-based investment bank, said he’s thrilled about merging his office with Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting unit, headed by Michael Wierwille. The new firm will be called Duff & Phelps and is concurrent with a management-led buyout of Corporate Value Consulting.
