L.A. gasoline prices dropped for the seventh straight week, and the lower price trend is expected to continue through at least the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, said the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area fell 8.6 cents to $2.583 on Friday from $2.669 one week ago. The price was $2.911 per gallon one month ago and $2.326 one year prior. Prices last hit a new record high on Sept. 6.

“With prices falling rapidly in the past month, the question motorists are asking is, ‘How low will they go?'” Auto Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp said. “While it’s impossible to predict exact numbers, it’s likely that there will be significant decline for at least the next couple of weeks.”

The Orange County area had the lowest average price in Southern California, dlipping 8.7 cents to $2.527. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest gas price, dropping 6.9 cents to $2.696.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m. each Friday.
