VNU Quits IMS Buy

A rebellion by investors forced Dutch publisher VNU to abandon a $7 billion takeover of U.S. health care data firm IMS Health on Thursday and triggered the resignation of its chief executive.


VNU, the world’s biggest market research firm, said it would also return 1 billion euros to shareholders, who had demanded bigger returns from the company and threatened to vote down the IMS deal, complaining that it was too costly.
