L.A. Gas Prices Slide for the Fourth Straight Week

Friday the 13th wasn’t unlucky for drivers as gasoline prices fell in Los Angeles and throughout much of Southern California, declining for the fourth straight week, the Automobile Club of Southern California said.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles dipped 4.2 cents to $2.539 on Friday from $2.581 one week ago. The price was $2.625 per gallon one month ago, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“There is ample crude oil in the nation’s inventories to meet our needs and those levels are having a calming effect on international crude markets, where prices had been fluctuating,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “The downward trend appears to be accelerating, and motorists can expect to see further declines at the gas pumps for several weeks to come.”

For the sixth Friday in a row, the lowest average price in Southern California was in Orange County, at $2.533. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest average local price, at $2.668. And for the first time in months, none of the Southern California areas surveyed by AAA reached a record year-over-year price in more than 2 weeks.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m., May 13.
