Toymaker Fisher-Price Inc. is recalling about 154,000 defective Grow-to-Pro Pogo Sticks and nearly 54,000 Lil’ Wagster Dragster push toys because they pose an injury risk to children, government regulators said Tuesday.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Fisher-Price, a brand of El Segundo-based Mattel, received 17 reports of children being hurt by the pogo sticks, including one of teeth being knocked out and one where stitches were required due to the toy getting stuck in the down position then suddenly releasing, causing children to fall. The pogo sticks were sold at discount department and toy stores for between $25 and $30 from January 2002 through August 2004.

Fisher-Price received nine reports of children being hurt using the Lil’ Wagster Dragster push toys due to the possibility of a young child’s chin, jaw and/or teeth getting lodged in the opening at the top of the toy’s round handle. The toys were sold for about $13 from December 2002 through February 2005.

Consumers are advised to contact Fisher-Price about the toys.

Mattel’s stock was up 0.4 percent to $18.09 in early afternoon trading Tuesday.
