L.A. Hotel Occupancy, Room Rates Rise in March

Los Angeles County visitors paid an average of $128.15 to spend a night in a hotel room this March, a 6.1 percent jump from what they paid the same month last year, according to data released Monday by PKF Consulting. Occupancy rates also rose.


Beverly Hills led all submarkets with a 14.7 percent year-over-year average room rate increase, to $291.39 per night in March. The next-highest room rate increase, at 8.9 percent, was found in West Hollywood, where March’s average room price was $172.01.


Long Beach was the only submarket in which average rates fell in March from the like period in 2004. The average March room rate in Long Beach was $112.11 in March, down 2.6 percent from $115.04 in March 2004.


Occupancy rates also rose countywide, with the exception of the San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena. Average occupancy rates rose 3.3 percent countywide to 76.28 percent in March from March of last year. In Pasadena, the occupancy rate fell 2 percent to 83.76 percent, and San Gabriel Valley’s occupancy rate fell 0.3 percent to 77.47 percent.


Downtown Los Angeles had the largest year-over-year jump in occupancy, a 12.6 percent rise to 65.26 percent, while Marina del Rey posted a 6.8 percent increase to 82.27 percent occupancy in March.
