, an Agoura Hills-based entertainment technology company, reported net income of $3.6 million (19 cents per diluted share) for the first quarter ended March 31, compared with $3.4 million (19 cents) for the like period a year earlier. Revenue rose to $22.1 million from $15.6 million in the year-ago period.


Included in first-quarter results were charges of $2.3 million (8 cents per share) for research and development and $328,000 (1 cent) related to the Jan. 3 purchase of Lowry Digital Images Inc.

, a Torrance-based online discount retailer, reported a loss of $1.7 million (10 cents per diluted share) for the first quarter ended March 31, compared with a loss of $20,000 (breakeven) for the like period a year earlier. Revenue rose to $55.1 million from $38.2 million in the year-ago period.


The higher loss in 2005 is related to the company’s spin-off from PC Mall and reflects reduced gross margins, higher marketing and advertising expenditures and other costs.



& #8226; North American Scientific Inc.

shares fell 1 percent to $2.99 each after the Chatsworth-based radiation therapy products company said in an SEC filing that on May 3 it terminated the employment of John Manzetti, president of the company’s wholly owned Nomos Corp. subsidiary. On May 4, Manzetti resigned from the company’s board. As part of an agreement, he gets $450,000 in separation and severance payments.



& #8226; Fulcrum Microsystems

announced it has raised $20 million in a Series C round of venture capital financing. The Calabasas-based semiconductor company said it will use the funds to expand its product line and marketing initiatives. New investor Granite Ventures of San Francisco led the financing round. The company’s existing investors Infinity Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Palomar Ventures and Worldview Technology Partners also participated, Fulcrum Microsystems said in a press release.
