Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla on Friday reappointed many City Council members to existing committee leadership roles.

The heads of the council committees that oversee city budgeting, housing and economic development, commerce and energy, and city planning were unchanged.

Padilla, a onetime supporter of former Mayor James Hahn who switched his allegiance to Antonio Villaraigosa, appointed close ally of the new mayor, Jack Weiss, as chairman of the council’s influential public safety committee.

He left Councilman Bernard Parks, who supported Villaraigosa after losing his own mayoral bid, in charge of the powerful budget and finance committee. Eric Garcetti will continue to head the housing, community and economic development committee. Tony Cardenas gets another term as chairman of the commerce, energy and natural resources committee.

Wendy Greuel, the council member who emerged as a leading voice for reforming the city business task, was named chairwoman of an ad hoc committee overseeing that effort, replacing Cardenas. Greuel also will head the council’s transportation committee, replacing Villaraigosa.
