Hilton Awards Ad Account to Y

Hilton Hotels Corp. selected advertising agency Young & Rubicam to handle creative duties on its $40 million to $50 million Hilton brand account, Adweek reported on its Web site.

Y & R;’s Irvine office led the pitch for Beverly Hills-based Hilton with strategic help from its New York operations and creative resources from Chicago. The Irvine office is expected to take the lead on managing the account.

The agency beat out Omnicom’s TBWA/Chiat/Day in New York, GSD & M; in Irving, Texas, Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson in New York and the incumbent agency, IPG’s Foote, Cone & Belding.

Foote, Cone & Belding will continue to work advertising for Hilton’s Doubletree, Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites brands.

All media-related duties for the Hilton account will be taken care of by Omnicom Group’s OMD in Playa del Rey.

The Hilton deal is a welcome one for Y & R;’s Irvine office. The unit lost some major accounts earlier in the year, including part of Ford Motor Co.’s Jaguar Cars and Sony Electronics Inc.

Y & R; is a unit of the UK’s WPP Group PLC.
