L.A. Gas Prices Rise for Third Week

With oil hovering near $60 a barrel, gas prices in the Los Angeles area moved higher for the third straight week the first time that has happened since mid-April, according to the Energy Information Administration.


The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area was $2.457 for the week ended July 4, up from $2.419 the previous week. Prices rose nearly 4 cents and are now around 23 cents higher than year-ago levels.


Statewide gas prices bumped up about 5 cents for the week to an average of $2.457 per gallon as well. They are nearly 25 cents higher than one year ago.


California still had the highest gas prices, and San Francisco outpaced L.A., for the second week in a row; San Francisco gained 7 cents to $2.519.


Texas tied with Minnesota as the lowest-priced state of the areas surveyed, at $2.108 per gallon, and the city with cheapest gas was again Houston, at $2.094 per gallon.
