For the third week in a row, gas prices moved higher in Los Angeles, according to data from the Energy Information Administration.

The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area was $2.080 for the week ended Jan. 31, jumping from the previous week’s $1.997. L.A. gas prices are now 29 cents higher per gallon than they were one year ago.

The statewide average was $2.034 per gallon, up from last week’s $1.959 and nearly 28 cents higher than the comparable period of 2004.

This week, California overtook New York as the most expensive state in which to buy a gallon of gas. Los Angeles was already the most expensive city in the U.S., having traded the lead with San Francisco in recent weeks.
