Bay Area Groceries, Unions Reach Tentative Deal

After months of negotiations, a tentative settlement has been reached between the unions representing 30,000 Bay Area workers and the grocery chains that employ them.


A statement issued by Pleasanton-based Safeway, which joined Albertson’s and Kroger’s in negotiating the contract, said the deal had been reached Sunday afternoon.


The union will now offer the deal to its members for ratification, which could happen in a matter of weeks.
