An Orange County Superior Court judge ruled on Friday that former the Anaheim Angels may keep their new name, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Judge Peter Polos told lawyers representing the city, which was seeking a preliminary injunction that would bar the team from using Los Angeles in the name, that the stadium lease only requires that Anaheim be a part of the team’s name, the Associated Press reported.

The Angels announced their name change Jan. 3 as part of a marketing effort to broaden the team’s appeal beyond its base of Orange County.

Team owner Arte Moreno has blanketed Los Angeles and other counties with nearly 500 billboards sporting the traditional haloed “A” logo, with the words, “City of Angels.”
