Amtrak rail service north of Los Angeles shut down Monday will remain offline until this weekend, as the recent spate of storms has once again damaged tracks along the commuter train line’s coastal route.

Pacific Surfliner service, which runs between San Diego and Paso Robles, was disrupted Feb. 18 when tracks owned by Union Pacific Corp. were washed out in Camarillo.

Ten of the 12 trains serving the L.A. to San Luis Obispo route will resume operations on Saturday; the remaining two are set to open Feb. 27.

The shutdown was the second time service north of L.A. has been disrupted this year. Earlier storms stopped all commuter service from Jan. 9 through Feb. 8. Even then, Amtrak was only able to transport passengers as far as Santa Barbara, where they hopped on buses chartered by the federal rail line for the remainder of the way.

Meanwhile, Union Pacific restarted its freight line between Los Angeles and Oakland today after the flooding in Camarillo forced the closure of the route three days ago.
