Tribune Co. Reports Lower January Revenues; Times Home Delivery Declines

Tribune Co., owner of the Los Angeles Times, reported circulation revenues of $58.3 million for the month of January, down 7.6 percent from the same period a year ago, due in part to declines in home delivery at the Times.


The Chicago-based media giant reported consolidated January revenues of $476.9 million, up 0.2 percent over last year.


Tribune reported January publishing revenues of $371 million, up 2 percent over last year, and advertising revenues of $288.7 million, 3.9 percent higher than last year.


The advertising count for the Times’ full-run ads, those that run in the paper’s entire geographic distribution zone, was 232,000 pieces, down 5 percent from last January. Part-run, or ads that run only in certain geographic regions, was at 495,000 pieces, down 4 percent from a year ago.


January preprint ads at the Times numbered 346,041, up 29 percent from 2003.
