The Los Angeles City Ethics Commission fined Beverly Hills developer Mark Alan Abrams $270,000 for violations of campaign finance laws, according to Commissioner Dale Bonner.

The Ethics Commission charged Abrams on Tuesday with more than 40 counts, many stemming from allegations that in order to get around the $1,000 campaign limit in city elections, he reimbursed others who made contributions on his behalf.

Abrams, along with his business partner Charles Elliott Fitzgerald, were among Mayor James Hahn’s biggest contributors. They have been named in a $140 million mortgage fraud case filed by Lehman Bros. involving several expensive Beverly Hills homes.
