The Los Angeles Times said on Thursday that its Times Community News division has bought the La Canada Valley Sun and the Crescenta Valley Sun from Century Group newspapers.

Will Fleet, publisher of the Glendale News-Press, Foothill Leader and Burbank Leader, will oversee the Valley Sun newspapers, The Times said in a release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In a briefing given to Valley Sun staffers, Fleet said both papers’ news and advertising employees will continue in their present positions, the La Canada Valley Sun reported.

The La Canada Valley Sun has 10,000 subscribers in the La Canada Flintridge area. The Crescenta Valley Sun, which serves La Crescenta, Montrose and northern Glendale, has a circulation of 15,000. Both weekly papers are located near Glendale.

The Valley Sun newspapers will become part of the Times Community News group, which publishes six newspapers: The Daily Pilot in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader, Foothill Leader, Huntington Beach Independent and Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot. Times Community News newspapers maintain separate editorial and business staff from those of The Times and focus on local coverage.

The Century Group publishes seven weekly newspapers concentrated in the Inland Empire.
