Univision Communications Inc., the Los Angeles-based Spanish-language broadcasting giant, said it had exercised its option to purchase two television stations in Puerto Rico for about $190 million.

Univision has been operating WLII and WSUR, owned by Montgomery, Ala.-based Raycom Media, under a time brokerage agreement since 2002. The purchase agreement was struck in June 2001, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In October 2002, Univision said WLII had become the No. 1-rated station on the island, six months after its programming had been introduced.

Pending regulatory approval, the purchase could close in mid-2005.
