Major Newhall Pass-Area Home Project Blocked

Opposition to a sprawling development in the Newhall Pass area has led Santa Clarita and Los Angeles officials to block the project by splitting jurisdiction of the 555-acre site, the Daily News reported on Wednesday.

The 5,800-home Las Lomas development, proposed by Dan Palmer of Palmer Investments, would have created 44,000 car trips a day, and was vigorously opposed by officials in Santa Clarita and the city and county of Los Angeles.

“There did not appear to be any support for Las Lomas by any of the three jurisdictions,” Michael Murphy, Santa Clarita’s intergovernmental officer told the paper. “Las Lomas probably drove the parties to come together.”

The project was planned for the steep hills on the northeast side of the Golden State (5) Freeway, west of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.
