West Coast Number Cruncher for NBC

Kim Williams, the new senior vice president and chief financial officer for NBC West Coast, must pay special attention to the bottom line in these uncertain times for media companies.

“I’m going to work closely with upper management in helping them get their jobs done,” said Williams, who most recently served as vice president and chief financial officer for NBC’s business development unit in New York. “I need to make sure the things the business wants to get done fit within the financial goals of NBC.”

In the West Coast post, Williams will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance for NBC’s operations, including its entertainment, NBC studios and NBC enterprises divisions.

In doing that, Williams said she would be working at all levels of the organization, from supporting upper management to overseeing finance staff. As for finance, she said, the new role is more operations-oriented, as opposed to the transactional nature of her previous posting.

“I’ll be working on the strategic front, but I’ll also be getting into the nitty gritty,” she said.

Williams replaces Patty Hutton, who left for a position with General Electric, NBC’s parent company.

A 1990 graduate of Connecticut College, Williams got her masters degree in international management from The American Graduate School of International Management outside of Phoenix.

Her career with NBC began in GE’s London offices, where she worked in various finance roles. In 1997, she returned to the United States to join NBC’s finance team as director for broadcast and network operations. Later that year, she moved to Los Angeles and took a position as vice president and quality leader. Williams also served a tour of duty in New York as vice president and chief financial officer, NBC Interactive Media during 1990-2000.

She lives in West Los Angeles with her husband.
