Outscoring all other local health plans, including much larger HMOs in Southern California, Pomona-based non-profit HMO Inter Valley Health Plan recently received the highest marks overall in a member satisfaction survey conducted by Medicare.

Medicare recently released the results of their second annual “Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey,” a comprehensive poll of health plan member satisfaction. The survey was designed by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) to determine how members assess their HMO services, in a number of categories. Inter Valley outscored its local competition in virtually every category, including the “Overall Rating of Health Plan” score, for which a remarkable 53% of respondents rated Inter Valley a 10 out of 10 (most other HMOs scored in the mid-thirties to low-forties). Almost 90% of respondents rated Inter Valley an 8 or higher another score significantly higher than all other Southern California Health Plans.

Inter Valley led all Southern California HMOs in a number of other categories, including, “Overall Rating of Health Care,” “Overall Rating of Specialists,” “Courteous and Helpful Office Staff,” “Customer Service,” “Helpfulness of Customer Service Staff,” and “Ease of Obtaining Prescription Medicine.” The complete results of the survey are available at Medicare’s community-access web site.

“We’re extremely proud of our performance in this year’s survey,” said Inter Valley’s Vice President of Sales and Membership, Chuck Nickel. “As a non-profit HMO whose motto is ‘Real People, Real Service,’ member satisfaction is our major goal. It is truly rewarding to score so well in such a broad array of categories. We regularly conduct our own member satisfaction surveys to make certain that we are providing our members with the high quality health care and service, but it is particularly gratifying to see us ranked ‘number one’ by an outside survey conducted by Medicare themselves.”

Nickel reports that Inter Valley’s dominant showing in HCFA’s survey scores comes on the heels of a record-setting month for the company in terms of new enrollees more than 900 new Medicare members enrolled last month.
